The first ever caricature history trail map in county Wexford has been created by the Ballycanew/Ballyoughter Community Development Association.

The ‘Ballycanew History Trail Map’ brochure was launched last week by the association to help ensure the viability of historic features such as Ballymore House, Oulart Hill and the 1798 Centre in Enniscorthy.

The map is centred in Ballycanew, but directs people out of the village towards historic places around the district. The map has been numbered one to 14 to correspond to signs that have been placed around Ballycanew and surrounding areas in North Wexford.

‘We wanted to support Rural villages who put in a lot of effort into history, but do not get any recognition for it,’

Plan your holiday in Ireland’s Ancient East and experience the magic of must-see attractions

The map and brochure includes historical information about Ballycanew, dating back to 1247 when the first reordered mention of Ballycanew was given to Theodore De Neville.

They have received great feedback, especially from Tourism Ireland and local businesses. The leaflets will be available at Market House design and in Ballycanew village.
